Is this in many places, or just a few?  Got to figure one option is to 
re-write part, or all, of the program.

Perhaps the easiest solution is running a VAX emulator, and run the VAX 
version of TECO?  Hmmm ...  would have storage issues, might have to 
move files to "VAX storage" for editing, and then back?

Or, just use EDT ...

Docha just hate "too smart" programmers?
