I haven't tried migrating a whole cluster in one big "bet the farm" fashion. I frequently migrate nodes, one-by-one, until the cluster is entirely virtual.

A CHARON node running on Linux/Windows under VMware, can be motioned with only a slight delay. You could make the cluster tolerant of the few-seconds delay without doing a cluster transition by adjusting the correct VMS parameters.
