Back then we were developing a system for call tracing on Windows NT. It could trace landline and mobile calls within 6 seconds of the call being initiated

The law enforcement folks were clambering over themselves to get access to it, although it was originally developed to monitor network health and spot defects quickly

We were reviewing and seriously considering going to Windows NT on an  Alpha 8400 because of the processing speed but then everything went pear shaped with Windows NT on Alpha

Then Singtel took over and the review board didn't approve further funding on any projects that didn't make money no matter how much it improved things within the organisation and so whole system was scrapped

Almost made it...
