Yes, but you CAN try to persuade them, entice them, cajole them?

Surely, there is less effort to support Oracle when the target hardware 
is the sme?

I usually start with begging then quickly move on to insults and 
ridicule. Admittedly I've had varying levels of success but you could 
give it a go?
