I suspect the answer might have to do with the fact that perl is
pretty roundly disliked these days.  It seems to come out near the
top of the "most despised programming languages" surveys.

Don't ask me _why_.  The answer will be an unprintable flood of insults
directed at kids on my #$%^&*() lawn.  And speculative, but who cares. ;)
