Here's a brief description of the external I/O connection, used to
connect to the expansion enclosure:
http://martin.brenner.de/vaxstation2000.html
Early SCSI was really flaky in general, and that particular SCSI-ish
I/O bus implementation was one of the earliest in all of VAX. AFAIK
that I/O connection was never advertised as nor marketed as nor
supported as a (generic) SCSI connection, too. I would not have great
hopes around getting that VAXstation 2000 external I/O connection to
work with an arbitrary SCSI device.
Again, use the cluster diskless satellite sequence I'd described
earlier for getting the VMS073.B saveset onto the VAXstation RD52 (MFM)
internal disk, staging the other VMS073.% files onto the [000000] root
directory, and booting from that.
Unless you have a scratch TK50 cartridge and a TK50-F for the
VAXstation 2000, and a TK50-else that SIMH can get at. Or a
host-based or a hardware InfoServer. Or a second (MFM) RD53 or RD54
for the expansion enclosure. Etc. I don't believe there was an
expansion option for optical media that far back.
