The hardware is plenty SCSI enough to drive SCSI hard drives. It does take
a bit of patching to the VMS SCSI driver and, if you want to boot from the
SCSI disk, the boot rom on the 2000 system board.
It' s a bit of work, but, old SCSI drives are cheaper and more available
(and bigger) than RD series disks.
This was all worked out back in the day by Wolfgang Moeller. I've set it
up on four 2000s here, all running VMS 7.3 on RZ29's for system disks. It's
not too tough to get going, for a serious 2000 hobbyist (these days, a rare
breed indeed).
If any 2000 fans are interested, contact me for the details.
And if any of the 2000 haters out there have any MS400-CA 12 MB boards
they don't need, let me know - I could use a couple to upgrade two of my
systems from 6 MB.
