The input filter a switching supply is apt to leak some current... not much,
but older ones may be designed to leak enough to trip a GFI and bad ones may
have leaky ceramic caps that will trip a GFI.

That's the first step, but measuring ground leakage is also worth doing.
And some older equipment just won't run on a GFI circuit.
