Thinking about business only in terms of "having what we have", and so 
being sort of slave of a main stream which can be a foolish one... is on 
my side a way of thinking in some "Ancien Régime" mood.

I had to give at the past bootcamp a gift. I choose a book, biography of 
Grace Hooper, who I discovered for the occasion. In computer business 
there are always been people who think different and change the stream 
of events.

VMS is not only an old "pittoresque antiquité" only determined by right 
and wrong choices, in a determined stream of business necessities, it 
has been a bunch of actors who contributed to determine the stream of 
events. Perhaps something (really) new could advent with the current 
renewal.

(Just for fun. I agree however on about all your detailled analysis).
