Apple may have "fixed" that program, too. I believe that
it was less fussy in the past, but recently (OS X El Capitan,
Version 10.11.6):

hdiutil: burn: "v57.iso" not recognized - image not recognized
hdiutil: burn failed - image not recognized

The GUI scheme gives a similar complaint ('Could not burn
"v57.iso". The disk image is invalid.') And Disk Utility
doesn't seem to believe that it's a disk image. "v57.iso" is
an old Alpha firmware disk image. After binary FTP to a VMS
system, using LD gives a MOUNTable pseudo-disk, so I suspect
that CDRECORD (on any system?) could do the job with less
fuss, but I can't easily test that these days.
