As I have said three times now, it's looking for an ISO or other
recognizable filesystem.  The normal command line tools do not do this.
The gui is dumbed down to prevent people from making mistakes doing common
operations. 

The normal command line tools will let you copy a text file to a CD-R
image perfectly well if you want, even.
