Scott,

  it does matter. You can't mount the .iso or the CD you have created as 
a drive on  Windows or Linux so it will look like a coaster,

  Tools that check the file contains an ISO 9660 image will simply not 
burn the file.

  On Windows there are no native tools to handle this....
