Not to be contrarian, but has anyone ever successfully made a bootable piece of physical media from the .img file?

I downloaded the InfoServer V80 ZIP file from the digiater web site to my Mac, which automatically unzipped it. I copied the V35A .img file to my VMS system (with FileZilla) and was able to successfully LD CONNECT it, and MOUNT the LD device. The files on the volume seemed to be okay...though I don't know how to tell if it's actually bootable.

I managed to find a copy of the Digital VAX Software Product Library disc (CD disc) that I had stashed away that contains the V3.5A InfoServer kit (you never know when you're going to need them old bits!). It was disc 5 of 10 (it was the only disc from that revision of the VAX SPL that I kept...it's dated March 1998). I was going to make a .ISO file of the disc [tomorrow] and compare it against the .img above. If I can find anyone with a candidate box I'll make a CD-R disc from my .ISO file and see if it boots.

n.b. I *know* that the original CD disc that I have boots (that's why I saved it!)...I'm just curious if it's different than the .img file from digiater (and if so, in what way). Also, I'm reasonably sure that the disc probably has other layered products on it (the InfoServer kit can't be the only thing on the disc...it ain't all that big).

More later.
