Not sure what went wrong last Sunday, though this is what I did (again):
- boot the rx3600
- dismount a data disk: DKA300
- exchange the 72 GB HP disk with the 850 EVO 250 GB SSD
- mc sysman io auto       ! followed by a
  sho dev dka300/full     ! which still identifies itself as an HP drive
The big difference is that an init/sys dka300 did work as well as mounting the SSD. Next I compared an image backup from a 72 GB hard disk to a similar drive (dka100), this took 1'36 for 307881 blocks. The same command directed at the SSD took 27 seconds. More than 3 times faster.
