Sort of. HGST was IBM and then it was Hitachi and then it was HGST. Now
WD has bought out HGST.
The good news is that they are keeping HGST as a different division, and
the quality of products from that division is consistently higher than
those from the traditional WD people.
It's like back in the days when Seagate had the CDC/Imprimis plant and
the DEC/Maxtor/Quantum plant, and you could tell how reliable a given
drive would be by looking to see if it was made in Massachusetts or
Minnesota.
Whether this will continue or not I don't know.
