With the WASD v11.4.0 relesaed yesterday, WASD reached it's
25th Anniversary.

This created some comments on the WASD mailing list, of which
I'd like to share this one:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Let me put in my 2 cents worth, or should that be 2 Australian
Dollars on this anniversary.
Only with WASD were we able to persuade our large German customer
(a VAN) a few years ago, not to abandon OpenVMS for a particular part
of his Web-based application. Previously with Apache, and (lack of)
support from HP, we weren't able to resolve a reoccurring resource
problem with Apache. Once we had WASD running, the customer was blown
away not only by the improvement in performance, but by the reaction
times of the WASD Engineering team. ;-) The customer's support manager
famous quote was "the difference between Apache and WASD is like the
difference between night and day". What he was inferring to, was that
with Apache it was very difficult to analyse problems in a multi customer
production environment, whereas with WASD with its utilities such as
WATCH life had become a lot easier for the customer. Over the years,
with newer versions, new problems have occurred, but the reputation of
a product such as WASD has only grown, by the speed and how professionally
the problems are dealt with. Another aspect is that with such short lines
of communications suggestions for improvements/functionality have a good
chance of appearing in newer versions. Let's hope that WASD prospers for
the next 25 years!!!

Also notable is that WASD now have left DEC-Document for an inhouse
built documentation tool. See the "changes" page linked above...
