I don't see the point of jacketing a backup saveset into a zip archive
for the source code of a Star Trek game, or for most any other similar
application.
Fixing BACKUP to transparently and silently deal with an otherwise
valid saveset with hosed metadata would be nice, and the trade-offs
there led to BACKUP /REPAIR.
But then BACKUP is pretty clearly about as far as the current
implementation and arguably about as far the current design can be
pushed, too.
Locally? Use zip and unzip. Preferably with "-V", when dealing with
OpenVMS. Unless there's a specific requirement for BACKUP. With hope
for a distro-integrated zip and unzip.
