I think that this is a good idea. However, the motivation for it was an
online questionnaire a) answered by a small minority, b) mostly from
Germany, and c) in a non-representative fashion. OK, like Brexit, one
can argue that the motivation was questionable but in the end Parliament
voted for it.

Living in Germany, I've been following this, and I have not heard this
argument before.
China does indeed have the same time everywhere. Does Russia as well?
The really, really, really, really stupid thing: After it was
essentially decided to scrap changing the clocks once a year, it was
said that each country can choose whether it wants to have regular time
permanently or daylight-saving time permanently. That is just plain
stupid.
Also, some people are bringing in a third, but related, question, namely
whether some countries should be in a more appropriate time zone.
One thing at a time, please!
And, of course, one could have permanent daylight-saving time, in the
geographically correct time zone, or permanent normal time but belonging
to a time zone which is too far to the East (like Spain now)---no
difference in practice.
Getting rid of switching was a good idea.
INDEPENDENTLY of that, one could think about whether some countries
should be in a more appropriate time zone.
But not requiring everyone to be on normal time after voting out the
swtiching twice a year is just stupid.
