If you've not already skimmed these through, start with the
higher-level cluster guidelines and then lower-level clustering manuals
at HPE.

That'll get you the terms and concepts.

The lower-level Cluster Systems manual has a section on monitoring
links using SDA, among other tools. See "Using SDA to Monitor LAN or
IP Communications", among other details in those docs.

For LAN-local clustering, network protocols including IP, DECnet, LAT,
and LAD/LAST are unrelated to clustering.

The vast majority of references to IP and DECnet in the clustering
documentation are to satellite bootstrap operations. Cluster
satellites are rather less common than they once were, too.

Clustering on an Ethernet local area network uses a non-routed network
protocol known as System Communications Services (SCS).

With clusters comprised entirely of V8.4 and later, clustering can
communicate among sites using IP as a point-to-point transport for SCS
traffic—what's sometimes called IPCI, among other acronyms—but
clustering over IP is only very rarely used on a local network.

Page 15-13 of the (~dozen year old) OpenVMS FAQ discusses some control
tools and commands:

Also around on Freeware V5.0 is the MONLAV tool.

If you have specific questions, you'll want to post those, along with
the architectures and OpenVMS versions involved.
