You are forgettng that one of the features of X-Windows is that you can
run the application on one machine and display it on another machine.
DECterm is a built-in emulator, provided DECWindows is installed.
These days however anything running over X-Windows really should be done
using SSH as the transport.
However, you are also correct in that it's much more sensible to just
run a decent terminal emulator on your local machine.
