[Info-vax] HPE ever release V/I64 JRE V8.0 kit?

Quoting from the previous September 2018 thread by the OP on this same
question:

"The JDK alleges it's possible to build a JRE from the JDK, but I
haven't dived into that challenge. Obviously the preferred approach
would be for HPE to offer the JRE :-)"

Maybe dive in and determine what's available within the JDK kit, or if
y'all want a separate and pre-generated JRE as you've requested, or
want better vendor doc for the kits, call the vendor (VSI or HPE) and
log a request.

Unfortunately and inferring from other postings such as the OpenSSL
thread from the OP, the site(s) involved here do seem to lack vendor
support for OpenVMS, and which is already causing problems.

Things'll get a little more sticky with the HPE OpenVMS I64 V8.4
release as HPE ends the new-patches support less than two years from
now. HPE is delivering on their roadmap to exit the OpenVMS business.

As for diving in locally and researching this, I don't run any Java
apps on the local systems—not in some years—and haven't had the
inclination to license and download and rummage the Oracle Java kits.

Seems likely...

Though the OP is already aware of this, DDG found the following:

https://www.hpe.com/global/java/download/ivms/1.8.0/index.html

Quoting from the above index page:

> J2SE™ Development Kit (JDK) 8.0-144
>
> The JDK 8.0-144 kit implements the Java SE 8.0 (a.k.a. 1.8.0), and is
> based on Oracle's Java™ Standard Edition 8.0_144 Solaris Reference
> Release. It passes all the tests in Sun's Java Compatibility Kit test
> suite.

> the JDK to allow developers to create a JRE that can be bundled with

> of the JDK is not permitted).
>
> The JDK 8.0-144 kit is available for OpenVMS Integrity servers Version
> 8.4 and higher. This includes HPE OpenVMS version 8.4 for HPE Integrity
> server systems and OpenVMS version 8.4-1H1 and higher from VMS Software
> Inc."

That "also" above may have been meant to be "not", too.

Docs:
https://www.hpe.com/global/java/documentation/1.8.0/ivms/docs/user_guide.html
https://www.hpe.com/global/java/documentation/1.8.0/ivms/docs/release_notes.html

The JRE generation procedures appear either undocumented, or obscurely
documented. Nothing obvious from searching the above doc for JRE,
unfortunately.

Which usually means downloading the kit, and diving in.
