Also, remember to look at sockets on your Integrity servers to be
transitioned to VSI. Current Integrity OpenVMS licensing from both HPE and
VSI is based on the base OpenVMS prod license cost x # of sockets in that
server. I believe this change was implemented in OpenVMS V8.4 timeframe
(before this, it was core based pricing).
If you are using older pre-I2 or I2 servers with 4 sockets and total of 8
cores, then it might be worth buying a newer I4 or I6 server with 1 socket
(with fewer cores, keeping in mind much better core perf on I4/I6's)
Example - if an Integrity server total OpenVMS licenses costs $50K on a
single socket I4/I6 server, the same OpenVMS licensing will cost $200K on an
older 4 socket I2 server.
