Now quite every search about OpenVMS ends on the ugly pdf at HPE.

It's a misery if you are speaking to someone who doesn't know VMS, 
because lot of people use first google, even if then have some 
structured doc somewhere the had with their licence, because for simple 
search it is faster.

So, now, VMS is synonim for the majority to "no-documentation".

Hopefully with the new for-all documentation at 
http://www.vmssoftware.com/products_res.html#documentation the situation 
will be improved. But why dividing documentation in free and payed. Even 
HP didn't do so when he was (badly) supporting VMS.

I don't know the Red Hat model. But its buyer IBM had gave access to a 
lot of intersting paper, for example about xml and soa, and I'm sure IBM 
are not pure philantropic actors. It was good for business.
