I do not like custom macros for EDT and I'll tell you why.

If one travels and works on many customer systems, you can be 
handicapped by not having the customizations you're used to, and, the 
customizations on the target system can be even worse.

Say you need to modify a program, and something you're not used to makes 
an unnoticed change, which isn't immediately apparent.  Talk about 
introducing bugs ....

I'll go so far as to say that if you change it, it's no longer EDT. 
Even it's no longer VMS.
