Intel is the worst offender here, nearly every release of late has meant a socket change

AMD had kept the same socket for quite a while, although I just put together a TR4 AND system, 16 core 32 thread, 128 gb system to get into machine learning with and how they have announced the next Threadripper CPU will be on a different socket. Can't say I'm impressed with this...

Digital did come out with the CPU on a daughter card many years back. It was going to be the best for upgrading but they stupidly priced it so high that hardly anyone bought it

I'd like to see laptop motherboard sizes and design standardised, what we have today is simply wasteful
