You can get accurate ANSI (VT100, VT220 etc) emulation using the
xterm included with the macOS XQuartz X11 addon to macOS
( https://www.xquartz.org/ ) - indeed this passes most of the
rigorous tests for a "real" terminal that VTTEST checks
( https://invisible-island.net/vttest/ ). This includes 132
column mode and inverse video, double height, double width etc.
X11 features bundled in Mac OS/X were removed around the Lion (10.7)
timeframe. XQuartz adds them back (and work in the latest macOS
Catalina (10.15) too!
