Actually, EDS held up HP over the GFC, not the other way around
Only the HP switch division I believe made any money, the rest of HP bled while EDS remained profitable, although the defence contract was refocused on, that was poorly run
What was dreadful was HP's faceless engagement model and instead of allowing EDS to continue to engage customers with it's impartial way of doing business, it forced EDS to push HP products and the customers got pissed off with this and started leaving. They didn't come to EDS to buy HP hardware, they came to find out what was the best product for their business. HP never had this impartiality and still don't
Then HP started getting rid of EDS management layers and pushing HP people into those positions, which further deteriorated things
Then HP started outsourcing chunks of work, internally, to it's Indian offshore operations which deteriorated things further and yet more customers left. Then HP had the gal to blame EDS for a woeful customer engagement style. The victor gets to write history obviously
The rot has continued to this day and we are seeing the fruits of it's faceless engagement model
HP products are nothing like they used to be and their service is a fraction of what it used to be also, little wonder the decline continues
