The feature is present even as far back as VAX.
Here is a link to some older documentation that shows up from a quick

Look for pseudo-interfaces.
Note that this applies to the HPE TCP/IP product.
The Process Software Multinet and TCPware products will have different
commands for setup, assuming they offer equivalent functionality.
