Most likely because it needs a driver for that os. As someone else
said, much easier to find a s/h wireless router on Ebay, most likely
$25 or less and use that. If it's a Linksys WRT54G, you can even use
open source software on it. Dozens of others are supported in that
way, but have had the 54g  running here for years, just fit and
forget.

Problem is that all interface cards work at hardware level, which
means that they need system and os specific software support. An
external unit gets rid of that problem...
