Realize that this question is sure to start the whole "security" or "lack thereof" discussion with regards to DECNET.

I know of existing customers that use DECNET for connections between OpenVMS systems only where all but one are isolated from the outside world.  I too would think that performance would be better in this case, but have nothing other than anecdotal info to back it up.
