Regarding benchmarks and DECnet IV vs. V.
I remember a customer running a distributed application based on MUMPS. 
A central database and ~150 branch office servers in DECnet IV. 
Thousands of users distributed across branches, each had one or several 
DECnet connections to the central database. 
After an upgrade to phase V during the weekend, everything seemed to be OK. 
But on Monday morning, there were big trouble. 
DECnet phase V on the central server was not able to handle so much 
concurrent connections. Engineering response was recommendation to go back 
to phase IV because of too many locking by design in phase V. 
As it was very rare case, I don't expect it to be fixed.
