I got an email from VSI this morning at 5:50AM CDT with the the response to my application for the VSI VMS Community License Program
Looks like they listened about some of the EULA items. This is the first part of the e-mail:
Hello John,
Thank you for your OpenVMS Community License application.
On August 12, 2020, a few amendments were made to the Community License Agreement (found here: https://vmssoftware.com/services/community-license/agreement/), which happened to be after you accepted the Agreement. The changes are as follows:
Old version:
You may Use Software only as provided for, and in connection with either Alpha or Integrity servers, as agreed by You and VSI.
New version:
You may Use Software only as provided for, and in connection with either Alpha, Integrity, or x86-64 processor-based servers, and/or emulators and/or hypervisors, as agreed by You and VSI.
The following statements were removed from the Agreement:
You may Use one copy of the Software on one device at a time.
Operating system Software may only be used when operating the associated hardware in configurations as approved, sold, or subsequently upgraded by VSI or a VSI authorized reseller.
By clicking the links below, you accept the changes to the Agreement.
After that comes the links to download the two sets of PAKS. For Alpha there are two, for Integrity there are 33. There is "OPENVMS-I64-BOE" plus 32 other individual entries for ACMS, ABS, CMS, DTR and others. The full list is below.
Answers to some of the questions are now here: <https://forum.vmssoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=130&sid=675a0db40d3142cf07d47870f99d61e5>
"Community license may be used on hardware or emulators."
"The Community License for Integrity does not include Clustering. The Community License for Alpha includes ALPHA-SYSTEM and ALPHA-LP (Clustering is included). VMS Software does not disallow the use of community license on several devices at a time."
"ECO kits are not provided to holders of the Community License as they are released." So, again we are shut out of any patches and ECO fixes.
If you have problems or questions email to training at vmssoftware.com
I'm disappointed on the lack of the HAOE PAK for Integrity. This means, among other things, no VMSCluster with Integrity systems, something I have already set up and will have to break. No Volume Shadowing which all my systems use. I don't remember what else comes with HAOE. I'm also somewhat dispointed that patches andECOs will not be available. So much for testing on any VSI CLP system. No point in doing any bug testing/reporting if you won't get access to them. Maybe they will do like HP and release the SYSTEM patches occasionally.
The file access provided is like HP, one for Alpha, one for Integrity. Files are listed below. Downloading with FileZilla using SFTP on my Mac with a 200M cable link is somewhat slow. Might be others downloading at the same time. You are limited to two streams, each stream has a limit of just under 300KiB/Sec.
I haven't moved the files to an OpenVMS system yet so I don't know what version of TCP/IP is included.
Here are the actual PAKs included:
Alpha:
ALPHA-SYSTEM
ALPHA-LP
Integrity:
OPENVMS-I64-BOE

I'm curious if the PAKS are generated for each user. I don't think so. My Alpha PAKs were generated on 16-JUL-2020 and the Integrity on 20-JUL-2020. Both well in advance to my application on 28-JUL-2020.
