RMS enhancements including online file vacuuming, and app
synchronization for online backups, and better instrumentation and
reporting, have yet to make the schedule.
I'd expect that the existing bucket-processing code effectively
prohibits online free space coalescence, and that resolving that was
considered complex and disruptive.
The tools and documentation and instrumentation necessary for detecting
and reporting clogged files are still somewhat spotty with RMS, too.
(e.g. DUMP /HEADER and "map area words in use", etc.)
You can use a different database with the necessary support. DEC
certainly would have been interested in selling Rdb to you. SQLite now
works, and you'll prolly want to use UPDATE here and not DELETE.
Upgrading the built-in support—giving away features which were once
charged for—can be a contentious change in many organizations.
Or put differently, write your request on the back of a hundred $
dollar bill 💵 and send 💸 it to VSI...
