First, I doubt you could find a bigger bigot than I am about having
anything between the HW and VMS. You could try, you would fail.
But that written, I did take a look at things, got an old version of
VirtualBox running on a WEENDOZE XP system, Got a current version
running on a WEENDOZE 7 system, and played around with some things. I
actually tried to create an instance of W95, W2K, XP, and W7, but some
of the older stuff was a problem. Regardless, I did see the advantages
of using a VM, I may be stubborn, but not inclined to cut off my nose to
spite my face.
On the other hand, I'm not too keen on getting some HP or Dell stuff. I
build my own systems. Fairly cheap.
So, I most likely will run x86 VMS on a VM instance, or more than one,
on the cheap HW I use, regardless of prior prejudice against anything
between VMS and the HW. Usage will mostly be software development, not
production Time will tell if that will be adequate.
The thing is, I'll be able to use the latest HW available, SSDs, and
such, and still run VMS. For several hundred dollars of HW. That's a
win. Spend more if you want. I cannot justify doing so.
