Junk I/O ports on Alpha. I've met several failed Alpha console ports, 
both failed PS/2 ports, and failed COM1 serial ports.

I'll look for one of the manuals that warns about console hot-plugging. 
 Did a quick scan through the DS15 docs and didn't see the reference.

USB is much more tolerant. It's SCSI with random disconnects, after all.
