And if you buy 3 items at 40 cents? You still pay with that single
dollar coin, don't you?

Over here, If I pay with my card, I pay the total down to the "last cent".
If one pay with cash (extremely rare today), the total is rounded to the
closest dollar using a correct half-dollar up/down rounding.

(We do not use dollar/cent in Sweden, but just for the example).

And, as I said, cash is very rare today, many shops doesn't even
accept cash anymore...
