[Info-vax] How does VSI license pricing on Itanium work? By socket, by core, by relative performance. I can't get a straight answer from VSI.

Correct; licensing, pricing, sales models, and cost centers can each
provide quite wonderful political and business quagmires, and for many
vendors.
In many organizations, these areas are each fully primed petards, and
the entrenched designs and support staff understandably slow to adapt.
If.
Then there's LMF, which can be magnificently mendacious when that
malevolently-designed licensing mechanism is mis-used for product
telemetry.
For many software apps, instrumentation is lacking, with data largely
funneled through the ill-suited lenses of sales and support.
Extracting app and organizational complexity tends to be an ongoing and
Augean task for many organizations.
