It is actually all freeware, not mostly.

The RPi 2B and 3 are what I have on hand at the moment to experiment with.

I was not aware of it that variant.   It looks like it needs an I/O 
board to do any experimentation for.   I do not see any cases for 
systems with the I/O board either.
