[Info-vax] Is C++ good in scientific computation? Why did Fortran lose its popularity?

At least no-one has suggested that Fortran code can be replaced by
Javascript (as far as I am aware anyway. :-))

I wonder what prompted Bob to start this thread ? Has something come
up about these languages ?
