Still running G8 series here, but the G7 and perhaps earlier were all
sata or sas campatible, depending on the controller. Sata always were
the low cost option though, with higher rotational latency and limited
command set. Would only consider sata if the drives were in a redundant
raid set with spares, or mirrored.
Virtualisation is ok, but there must be real disks somewhere at some
point and sas is the preferred option for professional work...
