Gee, can we first define "open systems" ???

Don't know about you limeys, (thought we were using a similar language) 
but I don't read anything above that makes any claims about good, bad, 
indifferent, ...

As to why some things are being implemented on VMS, it's a connected 
world, for better or worse, and if one wishes to exist in such a world, 
they need to have the tools that support such connectivity.
