Phillip - some home internet routers now have a usb  port by which you can share a printer over your home network, this uses cups/ipp on port 631 and it should just work once you set up the printer using the web interface on the router.I had a billion router that did this but unfortunately it died in a thunderstorm.

Some routers based on DD-WRT can also do this for printers connected onethernet ports or by wireless and can even do Apple AirPrint , though this involves more tinkering around with Linux than I am comfortable with
