You're debating with a mostly babyboomer generation crowd who,
themselves, in varying degrees, are nearing "EOL". Just like
they probably won't care what happens after that time, they'll
likely even lesser so care what happens to VMS. As a matter of
fact, from the things I've read lately, in this very thread, I
strongly get the impression that many of them would be happy if
VMS were pulled into the grave with them.
VMS is a fascinating and truly unique operating system, in a
world dominated by bland uniformity in the realm of computers,
but if its legacy can't be secured... well, then so be it.
I think those with dignity should just give up and let it be.
I personally certainly don't think it's worth to beg or grovel
to anyone. Our only hope will be for VSI to handle things well
for everything since the VAX generation (and of course a lot of
it is out of their hands). So far it looks decent, but only
time will truly tell.
