Thank you David,
What I actually had was a female to female DB9 lead which I cut in half. I then, as you described, used an CAT5 cable and inserted 6 wires into the MMJ (ignoring two of them). I then followed that URL (the Dutch one) to make the connections between the wires on each by twisting them together - very Heath Robinson (a very English reference I know) - as a temp measure (because I don't feel the need to solder anything until it actually works both ways). If you were able to dig out the instructions/notes you had that would be most helpful - I'm certainly no electrical engineer, just a former VAX/VMS Operator, System Manager, Internals Level Programmer (Fortran, Pascal, Macro and Cobol) and Technical Consultant with around 120 of my own VAX-Fortran source files that I've got compiler up on simh and would love to get running on a real VAX (albeit a pizza box one).
