GW-Basic came with DOS 1-4 and QBasic with DOS 5-6 and early Windows I 
believe.

GW-Basic source code is now available at:

I would still not expect many Linux people to know Basic.

And besides VMS Basic is somewhat different from MS Basic flavors.
