I think I remember that (mis)behaviour ...

But really, all actual physical dumb terminals are museum pieces now (aren’t they?). All we have left are software-based terminal emulators running on actual computers. And all these emulators emulate some member of the VT100 family. So do we still need SET TERMINAL/INQUIRE? Just assume you’re using a VT100, and be done with it.
