Complicated? I always use this. when communicating with my Linux and 
OpenVMS systems (even from home, since it easy in our university to set 
IP-port 22 open in the firewall).It just involves switching it on on the 
server (if it is not already on and adding one option on the ssh command.

Maybe it is complicated on windows because of the lack of native 
X11-support.
