"ssh -Y" works for me. No port to open. It all goes through the tunnel
so no firewall problems. Nothing else to do or set up. Just connect and
run your DECwindows or X11 application. (You may see messages about a
font not being on your local system, but that can be resolved.)
I use Linux. I doubt that it will be any different on Windows if you can
use/enable "trusted X11 forwarding" (-Y) in ssh and have a X11 server
running on Windows. Whether it is as fast as VNC, I don't know. As I
said, works for me, out of the box without installing anything on the
local or remote system.
