It was originally due out at the end of this year however.

In addition, I suspect that some people will need to see at least one
point release after that before they will consider running it in
production.

Not everyone will have an Itanium system. Some people are still
on Alpha.

It's a pity there's no such thing as an Itanium full-system emulator
as one solution could have been to give everyone who buys a x86-64
VMS system a temporary Itanium licence with a two-year expiry period.
