Besides the realities pointed out by David Goodwin, then it is worth
noting that there is a difference between voluntary work and commercial
work.

Linux run on a lot of architectures.

But if if you look at what Redhat and other commercial Linux vendors
support then it is way fewer.

Simply because Redhat just like Microsoft run a business and do not
want to spend money on something where there is no demand.
